| Dash rattle is an irritating trait that can make an otherwise solid car sound like a bucket of bolts. When driving on rough pavement, the rattle often sounds like something in the instrument pod is vibrating, or shaking. About a year ago, I posted a quick fix to stop the rattle by using a foam sandwich between the dash cover [hood] and the metal instrument pod frame. The first dash rattle fix was Auto-FAQ'd here: La-Z-Link Since then, another rattle has developed. This one sounds like it originates behind the gauge plexiglass in the instrument pod. Pressure applied against the pod face usually muffles the vibration quiet, or stops it altogether. I thought the plexiglass was not sealing tight against the housing. So I removed the instrument cluster. After the pod was out; it became apparent the rattle was a cable bundle, behind the pod, vibrating against the dash supports. The arrows locate the cable bundle location(s).

The fix is quick and easy. You don't need to pull the instrument pod, only the instrument pod hood (two screws underneath). Use a couple of cable tie fasteners to secure the cable bundle tight against the dash frame supports. I used the two slots which attach the prongs on the forward part of the instrument pod hood as an anchoring point. Note that Nissan knew this was a potential vibration point. You can see two OEM ties securing the cable ties; however, apparently they needed more support here.

While you are fixing the cables, take a minute and cut out some high density foam to cushion your dash cover. Every little bit helps.
I just came back from a test drive down my favorite washboard road. With tires at 35psi; and the shocks set on 'sport' mode, the dash was solid and tight. Hallejuah and Amen to that! Gordo
